Notwithstanding strong macroeconomic fundamentals and robust economic growth, as well as the remarkable resilience in the face of natural calamities, poverty remains a critical development challenge for the Philippines. Almost three decades of discourse and research has deepened our understanding of the binding constraints to poverty reduction. Increasingly, policymakers, development experts, civil society groups, and other stakeholders have been working together for innovative reforms and push for an evidence-based poverty reduction strategy that binds inclusiveness in economic outcomes with sustained high economic growth.

The AIM Rizalino S. Navarro Policy Center for Competitiveness (formerly AIM Policy Center), the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) held a policy symposium titled Towards Zero Poverty: Pursuing Inclusive Development and Shared Prosperity, last 23 September 2015 (Wednesday), from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, at the Palawan Ballroom, EDSA Shangri-la, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City. To download the materials and to find out more details about the event, please visit the official webpage.

The symposium is the culminating activity of the Towards Zero Poverty Project, a project that implemented technical research, scoping missions to selected provinces, and policy workshops with the country’s top economists, policymakers, and development practitioners. To know more about the project, please may visit the Towards Zero Poverty webpage.
