EPA First Workshop and IDRC Book Launching
Last November 2012, a shortlist of 20 research proposals was chosen for presentation in a two-day workshop. The workshop served as an additional vetting process in selecting the 10 grant winners. Nine (9) advisory committee members also joined the workshop and provided technical inputs to the researchers on how to improve their research work.
In addition to the research proposal presentations, the first day of the workshop (open to the public) featured several presentations on enterprise research in Asia, SME policies, and the World Bank Enterprise Surveys. The IDRC publication entitled Manufacturing Enterprises in Asia: Size structure and economic growth was also launched during the workshop opening day. The event was attended by approximately 80 participants coming from different sectors like the academe, development organizations, government and non-government organizations, and business sector.
A site visit to the capital of the Philippines was arranged as part of the closing activity of the workshop. Workshop guests were toured around the historical site of Intramuros to see some of the micro, small and medium enterprises mostly engaged in tourism-related activities.
